First of its kind in Pakistan, AGHAZ is a language learning application designed for children with autism to develop an understanding of the URDU Language through various lessons and games.

The application is based on The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), a proven effective learning tool for autistic children. Experts in the HCI field collaborated with educational psychologists to develop effective teaching methods after vigorous research and tested them on a wide range of participants to ensure effective learning.

Research Objective.

URDU is the official language in Pakistan, yet there has been no formal attempt to systematically teach URDU to autistic children using technology.

Studies Conducted.

Study
A comparative study was conducted with HFA children to enable an in-depth study of design and usability concerns. After determining their language age through the language measurement tool in the app, the children were exposed to either the technological tool or the manual method of teaching URDU to determine the efficacy, accessibility and cultural relevance of AGHAZ.
Results
AGHAZ is perceived favourable by special educationists and medical professionals. It is a visually pleasing, culturally relevant and engaging tool that allows parents an accessible platform for assessing and teaching URDU to autitsic children. Children show higher levels of engagement, retention of concepts and cooperation while using the app compared to manual methods.
